In today’s weak job market many college graduates are finding themselves with a Degree a hefty school loan they have to repay and no job. It is a known fact that jobs are scares and competition is fierce and finding a job is like finding a “needle in a hay stack” and it doesn’t look like this is going to change any time soon. In fact Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that as of May 2012 “Eighteen states recorded unemployment rate increases, 14 states and the District of Columbia posted rate decreases, and 18 states had no change…” Needless to say this makes finding a job challenging especially for college graduates who have no actual job experience. Ideally landing a job with a reputable and stable company which will offer an attractive salary and benefits is what most will seek, but the chances are slim, so it may be time to “think outside the box. For this reason it is important that recent college graduates come up with alternative and creative ways to earning an income. So stop competing with others and create a job of your own by putting your recent college degree experience to work for you, here are 2 simple job ideas.
Work for yourself.
Work for yourself by putting whatever skill, talent or knowledge to good use and make a full time or part time income doing it. Begin by making simple flyers with Apollo Printing & Graphics and distributing them, to family, friends, neighbors, or local businesses. Most people are looking for methods to save money so this opens up new opportunities for recent college grads to make money by simply offering their services for a lot less than the consumer would normally pay. As an example a Graphic Designer may approach local businesses, churches or fundraisers and offer to create a new website or maintain their current website for a fraction of the cost. The key here is to offer the services for a fraction of the cost while exceeding the customers’ expectations with a quality product or service. This is just one example and of course it applies to any college degree such as Accounting, Computer Tech and so on, essentially it is the same concept just a different service.
Become a Tutor.
Currently Americans of all ages have returned to school to either learn a new skill or obtain a college degree and these students hire the services of private tutors every day. This is an excellent opportunity especially for recent college grads to earn a decent income while the economy recovers. For instance majors in English, Math, Graphic Design, Accounting, you name it, students need it and pay for it. As an example Adobe Illustrator which happens to be one of the most challenging design programs opens the door to new opportunities for recent Graphic Design majors. Skip distributing flyers and instead partner with a reputable, trusted and Better Business Bureau Accredited tutoring company that is well known throughout the country such as Sylvan or Wyzant. Tutoring is definitely an honest and simple method to make extra cash full time or part time, the choice is yours and it is achievable and real.
The “Bottom line”, is to stop struggling with trying to find a job in a scare job market and “think outside the box” by either working for yourself, or becoming a tutor for a reputable and trusted company. In the long the college graduate will benefit from these two simple job ideas by gaining experience as well as demonstrate to potential employers that they are capable of overcoming obstacles and turning a negative experience into a positive opportunity. The possibilities are endless, so get started!
