Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis, recently spoke before a bipartisan committee in Congress regarding the situation in Afghanistan. What he said is shocking to say the least.
According to Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey his stark and sobering assessment is something that contradicts sharply the rosy statements being issued by the US military about our so called “successes” in Afghanistan.
LACK OF SUCCESS ON VIRTUALLY EVERY LEVEL
“I witnessed the absence of success on virtually every level. I heard many stories of how insurgents controlled virtually every piece of land beyond eyeshot of a U.S. or international security assistance force base”, he said.
COLLUSION WITH THE ENEMY
“From time to time, I observed the Afghan security forces collude with the insurgency”, he said. Collusion among the Afghan security forces is something that has been previously reported by independent media sources. In one case the Afghan army and the Taliban were found to be in a “secret pact” to loot US and NATO convoys (see article: Afghan forces collude with enemy http://www.pressdisplay.com/pressdisplay/viewer.aspx ).
LAUGHING AT AMERICAN SENIOR OFFICERS
Lt. Col. Davis tells us that in one incident an Afghan police captain actually “laughed” at him when Davis asked about how they responded to a Taliban attack. “No, we don’t go after them”, said the captain. “That would be dangerous.”
Talk about a sucker punch!
SAYING WHAT NEEDS TO BE SAID!
“Lieutenant Colonel Davis did not have to come forward. Without a doubt, it would have been better for his military career to keep his head down and his mouth shut. But with the stakes so great and the costs so high, he felt that he had a greater obligation to the truth. Lieutenant Colonel Davis’ story must be heard. It needs to be heard because it balances the last 10 years at the Armed Services Committee and in various other briefings and forums where we’ve been exposed to nothing more than the official line on how this war is going. It’s time we got firsthand experience and a firsthand version from someone who has seen the dysfunction of our Afghan policy at the ground level”, said Congresswoman Woolsey.
Congresswoman Woolsey went even so far as to term the war in Afghanistan, based upon what she heard Davis say to be a “a colossal failure”.
Woolsey is calling for the US to bring our troops home. She has emerged as an outspoken opponent to the long war in Afghanistan. See also: Rep. Woolsey: Afghanistan Policy on Wrong Side of History http://woolsey.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=18§iontree=6,18&itemid=1207
IT’S TIME- TO BRING THE TROOPS HOME!
“It’s time, finally–after more than a decade–to bring our troops home”, she said in an impassioned plea before the House of Representatives on May 31, 2012.
According to a Congressional staffer, who declined to be named in this report, indicated the Republicans in the House of Representatives were “busy ignoring the Congresswoman” when she spoke. Other members of the Republican party “snickered ” at her, the staffer said.
Apparently these particular members of Congress haven’t read the sobering testimony of Lieutenant Colonel Davis, a decorated war hero or they would not have been disrespecting her like that.
