“American Idol” runner up Jessica Sanchez dropped by “Live! With Kelly” yesterday, May 29th, for a short chat with host Kelly Ripa and guest co-host and Bare Naked Ladies lead singer Ed Robertson.
The pair of co-hosts agreed that Sanchez is an amazing singer and Ripa asked Robertson if he could see himself collaborating with her. He said he could see himself writing every one of her songs. He also told Ripa and Sanchez that if he were to try out for “American Idol,” he would get cut and he’s sold 14 million records. Therefore, he finds the talent and confidence of the young contestants on “Idol” to be “remarkable.”
Ripa noted that Sanchez easily carries herself as a star. Sanchez humbly soaked up the praise and told both hosts that she’s been singing since she was 2 and performing since she was 8, so building her poise along the way has been part of the process.
They also discussed her near elimination and the judges’ decision to use their save. Sanchez said it was a good and bad thing, because she probably thought about it too much afterward. But, she ultimately made it to a top 2 finish and she’s happy overall.
Jessica Sanchez made a huge impression with the “Idol” judges and audience right away and people wondered early on if she would take home this year’s “American Idol” top prize. Her near “Idol” exit was shocking but didn’t stop her from gaining a legion of loyal fans. She currently boasts over 550,000 Twitter followers.
Jessica Sanchez also garnered a lot of celebrity praise during her “Idol” journey, including guest mentor will.i.am, who asked Jimmy Iovine if they could steal her and legendary singer/songwriter Billy Joel.
On May 28th, her ultra-powerful duet partner/Tony winner Jennifer Holliday (“Dream Girls”), tweeted praise to Sanchez for her beautiful rendition of the National Anthem and “The Prayer” for the PBS National Memorial Day concert.
Sanchez was joined at the prestigious event by “American Idol” season 5 fourth place finalist Chris Daughtry who dedicated his performance of “Home” to the troops.
Unfortunately, the concert was cancelled due to poor weather conditions, but PBS tweeted a video of Sanchez’ National Anthem performance earlier today. Catch photos in the slideshow here or click here to watch the video.
