Florida east coast anglers and anglers around the world have a decision to make. Mother’s Day is fast approaching and it’s time to plan activities for that special day. So, what’s it gonna’ be? Are you taking the mothers in your life fishing or not?
It is not a simple question. You love to fish, but how about her? Let’s assume she does like to fish and would enjoy a day out on the water with you. There are plenty of great places to take her on Florida’s east coast, especially in the waters of the Indian River Lagoon.
Where ever you choose to go be sure there are convenient facilities close at hand in case a trip back to shore in necessary. Also be sure to include a lunch stop at one of many islands that exist in the Indian River Lagoon.
If you are fishing pack up all the necessary equipment, bait and condiments for a normal fishing trip, but then add an especially thought-out shore lunch that will surprise even her. Keep in mind during every step of the process that it is her day and catching a fish will be nothing more than a bonus.
Even if she doesn’t like to fish she would probably enjoy a nice lunch in a cool tropical setting. Just follow the plan below.
Pack the wine opener and a nice bottle of her favorite wine, or if appropriate her favorite soda. Not just any wine or soda will do for this special day. Forget the Beanie Weenies and sardines. Pack the gourmet stuff like special crackers, a nice fresh loaf of French bread, pate, humus, smoked salmon, and her favorite specialty sausage.
Simple and elegant are the key words. You don’t have to take fine china, but you don’t want to be eating off of floppy paper plates either. Get the good stuff. Cloth napkins instead of paper would be a nice touch, and real wine glasses are a necessity. Keep the dessert chocolates chilled in the cooler so they don’t become soft in the Florida sun.
Take these few suggestions and be creative. You know the lady better than most, so cater to her every desire and make Mother’s Day 2012 a special day that will long be remembered.
