Saint Cloud, MN – Competitors in the 2012 Can-Am Police-Fire Games gathered at the North Trail area here in Saint Cloud for the running of the mountain bike – trail race. The race began with a mass start in a field by the trail complex.
From there they went down a cross country ski trail until turning off into the woods to follow what could be best described as walking paths. Racers followed this course for two loops, three for the men’s open, and finished back in the same area as the start.
In that men’s open division the winner was Luke Nelson with a time of 1:47:35. Finishing second at 1:51:51 was Jason Buck and taking the bronze medal was Kevin Herman at 2:00:24. Remember, the open division was three laps through the woods the others being two.
The grandmaster men division gold went to Mark Stehlik whose time was 1:33:11. Michael Seguin’s time of 1:26:17 won the master men’s division.
Josh Peterson picked up another gold medal to go along with the one for Toughest Firefighter Alive in the senior-A men’s race coming in at 1:42:56. Winner of the senior-B men’s race at 1:32:44 was Robert Ballantyne.
Nicole Haas picked up a second cycling gold winning the open women’s race with a time of 1:45:21.
The 2012 Can-Am Police-Fire Games will wind up on Sunday. Events remaining are softball, Toughest Competitor Alive, judo, cycling – 22 mile criterium and running – 21K.
