Bob Burnquist takes X Games gold for the fourth time in the Big Air competition. After an injury this past Tuesday, Bob was unsure of his ability to nail his Big Air tricks. When Burnquist flew over the 65-foot gap with a switch backside 180 ollie followed by a forward-to-fakie indy grab 720 on the 27 foot wall he was given a score of 94.3. This proved to be a score that would secure X Games gold.
Burnquist, a veteran at the X Games was trailed by two teenagers who secured silver and bronze. Mitchie Brusco, 15, nailed a 900 and secured the silver medal. Following him, 17 year old Nolan Munroe handled his Big Air debut in style with a McTwist 540. That trick not only left two-time gold medalist Jake Brown off the award podium but also was named the ‘biggest McTwist 540’ of all time by X Games legend Tony Hawk. It was a good day on the Big Air Ramp.
This being Burnquist’s 18th X Games and ninth gold medal overall he once again proved that age is nothing but a number on the Big Air ramp. It was quite a sight seeing the three winners side by side discussing the competition. Brusco and Munroe sat on both sides of Burnquist at the post-competition press conference. A veteran of 35, Burnquist continues to show the teenagers by his side what X Games is all about – being motivated by the next generation of X Games athletes.
