Weather Summary: Early this week we suffered through another period of below normal temperatures and periods of showers. Although many did not see much rainfall there were pockets of heavier rain and thunderstorms. We also had a fair amount of sunshine at times, however the general weather pattern was not typical for late June. Thursday was a day of transition as temperatures returned to normal or slightly above normal, with partly sunny skies.
Showers rolled across most of the region Friday morning ahead of a warm front that is the leading edge of much warmer air to our south and west. Temperatures climbed well into the 80s to 90 degrees during the afternoon hours under partly to mostly sunny skies. It remained warm overnight, with lows falling to the upper 60s to low 70s by sunrise on Saturday.
Weather Synopsis: A warm front is poised to move across southern New England Friday. Once the front lifts to our northeast the much warmer and muggy air will stream into the region. As the morning clouds give way to sunshine temperatures will quickly jump into the 80s and low 90s during the afternoon. There is a chance of a pop up shower or thunderstorm late today or this evening.
A weak cold front will move across southern New England overnight on Friday and should be offshore by Saturday morning. This will not actually make it cooler, but rather a bit of a drier air mass behind the front.
Expect it to be hot throughout the weekend, but with some risk for showers or storms Saturday night, Sunday afternoon and Sunday night. The chance for showers is 20% to 30%. For the most part high temperatures should reach the low 90s.
Early next week the daytime temperatures should retreat back to the 80s, which is still above normal, with partly sunny days and a chance of showers or storms Monday and Tuesday afternoon. The chance for showers is only 20% to 40%. As of now Independence Day looks partly sunny and in the 80s.
