For folks in need of some big, powerful, inky California wines Gasbarro’s is offering a chance to try some of the benchmark winemakers of the style. From Tomorrow, May 31st, from 6-8pm Gasbarro’s on Federal Hill is hosting a tasting that will let you get a taste of these wines without breaking the bank.
Mark Gasbarro is generously opening wines from sixteen big names in California wine including Sonoma’s Paul Hobbs, Justin out of Paso Robles, and Chateau Montelena of Napa, the producer of the white wine that won the Judgment of Paris and provided the story for the most recent of big California wine films, Bottleshock.
These are serious producers whose wines are rarely inexpensive, and it’s rare to see so many of them at a free tasting, especially in Little Rhodie. Anyone who has interest in and/or a taste for the California style with its focus on power and concentration that these wines epitomize it is not a tasting to be missed.
