High pressure, responsible for the beautiful stretch of weather over the weekend, had moved east of the Capital Region early this morning. This will allow a complex area of low pressure to move from the middle of the country toward our area today and tonight. This area of low pressure will drag a warm front toward and through the region on Tuesday, followed by a cold front on Wednesday morning. A significant amount of moisture is available to this system, and thus a soaking rainfall, some of it heavy at times, is forecast starting tonight and lasting through Wednesday morning.
After the cold frontal passage on Wednesday morning, conditions look to remain unsettled through Thursday as the entire system moves to the New England coast, where some reorganization looks to occur. Thus, periods of showers remain possible over the region through this time period.
High pressure is forecast to build into the region by Friday, setting the stage for some calm and tranquil weather for the Mother’s Day weekend. The only potential fly in the ointment looks to be a weak, and moisture deprived cold front that attempts to pass through the region on Mother’s Day morning. Nothing more than an increase in clouds looks to be all it will be capable of producing at this point in time though.
Temperatures and precipitation amounts look to average near normal through the entire forecast period.
