A warm front will approach and pass through the Capital Region Tuesday. Any shower or thunderstorm activity associated with the front looks to be minimal as a strong high pressure ridge remains in place. The warm frontal passage will mark the initiation of increased heat and humidity to the area during the midweek period. Winds will become more westerly and southwesterly at the surface, allowing warmer and more humid air to overtake the region.
Temperatures look to soar into the 90’s both Wednesday and Thursday, and heat index values (the apparent temperature when both heat and humidity are factored in) may approach or exceed 100 degrees. An isolated afternoon or evening shower or thunderstorm is possible given such conditions, though any storm formation should be the exception as opposed to the rule.
A cold front is forecast to pass through the region Thursday night into Friday morning, cutting the humidity values, and gradually lowering the high temperatures as we head into the weekend. Some shower and thunderstorm activity is possible with the frontal passage, though moisture characteristics with this front do not look all that impressive at this time.
Temperatures are expected to average above normal for the forecast period, with precipitation averaging below normal.
