Cinco de Mayo is a celebration relating to Mexico and it is cause for celebration not just in the home country, but across the United States as millions partake in festive occasions to celebrate Mexican culture and to commemorate the Mexican military victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Here in Houston, our very own St. Arnold Brewery has a celebration of its own in store: A pub crawl that stops at undisclosed places revealed only by a subtle clue. Here is a rundown of the event:
Who: Saint Arnold Brewery
What: Santo de Mayo Pub Crawl
Where: Houston area (see below)
When: Saturday, May 5, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Why: To enjoy some St. Arnold beer and celebrate Cinco de Mayo
This St. Arnold pub crawl will take place in midtown and includes a total of five stops, leading up to the sixth and final stop at 5pm. The approximate locations for each stop and hint are as follows:
- 500 block of Gray St: Imagine something larger than a pig flying
- 2300 block of Louisiana: A beer garden from the Emerald Isle
- 200 block of Gray St.: Where you wish you had a swing
- 2000 block of Bagby St.: A heavenly place to tailgate
- 2400 block of Brazos St.: What you will be doing and where you will be doing it.
And for the final stop at 5 p.m.:
2300 block of Brazos: Anything owned by President Wilson when he was young.
As usual, this pub crawl will follow an open house format. This means that pub crawlers can stop at any one of the first five stops to pick up a ticket, and then proceed to the remaining four in any order they choose. It is important, however, to make sure to get to that first location between 1pm and 2pm, because this is the only hour in which the tickets will be handed out. At 5pm, pub crawlers can proceed to the sixth and final meeting place on Brazos where St. Arnold Santo glasses will be distributed to all who participate, including designated drivers. Along with the glasses, special prizes will be awarded and pub crawlers are encouraged to come dressed in their St. Arnold Santo wear.
St. Arnold Brewery hosts many pub crawls, but Cinco de Mayo occurs only once per year and this pub crawl promises to be more festive and entertaining as different taverns, restaurants, and drinking establishments sponsor events to celebrate the day. It is a good way to begin the Cinco de Mayo celebration with an afternoon of fun, friends, and St. Arnold beer.
