Coming this weekend to a mexican neighborhood cantina near you is a Cinco De Mayo celebration waiting to happen. Cinco De Mayo is a holiday for Mexican nationals but it has become a different holiday for Americans. Of course, leave it to Americans to add an emphasis on party and drinking.
Just google “Cinco De Mayo parites”, and a plethora of establishments will come up near you.
My suggestion? Get in your car and drive to Rocky Point, Mexico 3.5 hours from Phoenix and plant your feet in the sand, with your eyes focused on the Beautiful Sea of cortez. Take a minute to read the real significance of Cinco De Mayo( contrary to belief it is not Mexican Independence day which is celebrated September 16) and enjoy all the beauty and cultural Mexico has to offer. The holiday is about celebrating Mexican cultural and heritage.
Hotels, condo’s and camping is awaiting you. Of course, there is a tequila festival happening in Rocky Point on Saturday, so instead of going to your local neighborhood establishment in Phoenix, to celebrate Mexican independence, go to mexico and experience your own freedom, taste some tequila, sample local foods and listen to some marachi.
Happy Cinco De Mayo!
