Ugly Dog Productions is proud to announce the return of Couples Counseling Killed Katie, a one-act play written by Mark Roberts. This provocative, dark comedy stars Roberts (creator, Mike & Molly) and Jessica Tuck (True Blood). Yvette S. Taylor is the director. This early work by Roberts was originally written in 2000 and performed in Los Angeles for six months to sold-out audiences. The play is now returning for an encore engagement. Couples Counseling Killed Katie opens June 9, 2012 for a limited engagement at the Elephant Theatre.
“When poet/songbird Katie Dove is murdered by her manager/husband, the lives of the people surrounding her are deeply affected by the tragedy. Set in a counselor’s office and told through the personal accounts of seven different couples – played by Roberts and Tuck – Couples Counseling Killed Katie takes you on an outrageous and hilarious journey of love, hate and murder.”
Roberts is the creator and executive producer of the CBS series Mike and Molly and the author of several hit plays. For seven years he was a writer on the top-rated CBS comedy Two and a Half Men, rising to the level of executive producer and head writer. Other plays he has written include: Parasite Drag, Welcome to Tolono, Rantouland Die(this writer’s personal favorite) and Whitey. Mark’s play Where The Great Ones Run is also currently on stage at the Rogue Machine Theatre in Los Angeles.
Tuck has been a successful actress in Hollywood for nearly 25 years. Her numerous TV credits include, four seasons on HBO’s True Blood and a six-year stint on the Emmy Award-winning Judging Amy. She additionally had a starring role in the daytime drama One Life to Live, for which she received an Emmy Award nomination for Best Actress. Jessica’s feature film credits include: Super 8, Wild Hogs and Batman Forever. She also made her mark as Mrs. Evans in the High School Musical 2 and 3 sequels.
Taylorpossesses a great love for the theatre – particularly small theatre. She first worked with Mark Roberts when she was the associate producer of his award-winning, one-man show Single Color Rainbow before going on to direct the original production of Couples Counseling Killed Katie.
She later served as executive vice president at Revelations Entertainment, the independent production company headed by actor, producer, director Morgan Freeman. She worked closely with Freeman and his producing partner, Lori McCreary, in developing and managing all aspects of acquisitions, development and co-productions. Prior to joining Revelations, Yvette was executive vice president at Bette Midler and Bonnie Bruckheimer’s All Girl Productions; and also an associate producer on the CBS sitcom Bette.
