Is the husband or father in your life something of a cinephile? If so, then Criterion has your back, with its sale on select Blu-rays and DVDs through Amazon.com in celebration of Fathers Day.
The sale announcement was just made over Criterion’s Facebook page today, and seems to focus on some of the Collections more prolific directors: Wes Anderson, Akira Kurosawa, Stanley Kubrick, Terrence Malick and Charlie Chaplin all have multiple Criterion releases currently priced at approximately 50% their Standard Retail Price (S.R.P.).
Interestingly, the sale also covers some notable films that have long since been unavailable through Criterion, like Robocop, Armageddon and Monty Python’s Life of Brian. Other random films have been included in the under even more tenuous reasonings: The Fly Collection and Forbidden Planet evoke Criterion’s love of 50s sci-fi; Fantastic Mr. Fox, 2001: A Space Odessy and Taxi Driver come courtesy of the aformentioned Criterion favorites; and movies like Once Upon a Time in the West and Battle Royale are included without any justification (presumably because none is ever needed for such high caliber films).
Now, the mention of Fathers Day in the sale title would indicate that the special pricings on these titles would continue until June 17th. However, some things are perhaps best not left to chance, so check out the sale and seize any intriguing opportunities as soon as you can.
