Liverpool’s Danish defender, Daniel Agger looks set to extend his Liverpool stay as the 27-year-old is rumored to be setting up talks with new manager Brendan Rodgers to ensure his long term future remains on Merseyside.
Agger has been rumored a target of both Manchester City and FC Barcelona, but is however keen to stay with the five time European champions and continue developing his partnership with Slovakian defender Martin Skrtel.
The style of offensive play that new manager Brendan Rodgers is expect to deploy at Liverpool is ready-made for attacking defender’s such as Agger and has the Dane excited to stay according to comments to the Daily Mail:
It’s no secret that I’m happy to be in Liverpool. Otherwise, I would not have been there for six years.
I have not (discussed a new contract) but if they come with an offer I will surely sit down and talk with them.
It’s not something that is urgent, for I have contract until 2014, but if they ask I will listen.
I am looking forward to meeting the new coach. I’ve seen what he has done at Swansea, and it has been impressive.
That alone speaks volumes for the impression that Brendan Rodgers has already made just from his appointment as he is still yet to have a chance to speak with all the returning players due to some being away on holiday and others, such as Agger, that have been busy at the 2012 UEFA European Championship.
