Even though Independence Day falls in the middle of the week this year, this weekend is being called a holiday weekend. It’s just a little longer than most and, for many, includes a few working days in the middle of it. Always on the lookout to celebrate, local restaurants are sponsoring events to boost their business this weekend and into next week.
Coming up this weekend several Jacksonville area restaurants will offer special happenings to celebrate.
First, the venerable Southbank restaurant Wine Cellar will be celebrating 38 years in business this weekend. In an era when quality dining does not seem to stand up well, Wine Cellar has stood the test of time. Opened in 1974 and was acquired by its current owner, Vicki Dugan, in 1997. When it opened, Wine Cellar was a retail wine shop with a small bistro, now it is a constant entrant in the Florida Trend Magazine top 500 restaurant list. In addition the restaurant is consistently listed in Jacksonville top 25 restaurants by Jacksonville Magazine, and their wine list perennially wins the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence.
This Saturday, diners can help Wine Cellar celebrate its successes with 38 percent off dinner entrees through Saturday. Wine Cellar is located at 1314 Prudential Drive. Call (904) 398-8989 for reservations.
If the beaches are more your beat, stop by Azurea at One Ocean Resort this weekend where executive chef Ted Peters will host a Chef’s Studio cooking demonstration to introduce the restaurant’s summer menu. Azurea showcases flavors Europe, the Caribbean, and the Americas focusing on fresh ingredients and a rotating, seasonal menu.
The demonstration is Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Reservations are not required and the event is free to attend.
