There are well over 600 flood legends from around the world. While effort is often made to correlate all as a single event in time, there is reason to speculate that the Earth has been deluged a number of times, at least regionally. The circumstances leading to a deluge of massive proportion are not too mysterious and can be explained with modern examples.
Let’s begin by assuring that mass flooding is not a myth. William Ryan and Walter Pitman’s book “Noah’s Flood” explains the exploration that has been undertaken to discover the ancient shoreline around the Mediterranean. The same demarcation can be seen in the submerged coral beds of the Barbados, as well as remnants of ancient coastal civilizations in most any location that has been explored to date.
Ice core sampling from the Antarctica and Greenland show widespread contamination of the environment with ash, indicating that global conflagration has occurred in the past. The heat from burning vegetation and friction from ash particles in the atmosphere would melt ice caps in the Polar Regions. While the added volume of water would drive populations inland, it’s not likely to have covered the tops of mountains as many of the flood legends profess.
We now know that tsunamis can be caused by deep ocean earthquakes and have witnessed the localized devastation during the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, as well as others in recent times. Disturbances in the depths of the world’s oceans are more likely candidates for the flood legends than glacial melt. Yet, a globally catastrophic deluge requires even more energy than a single or perhaps even multiple earthquakes.
The source of such a devastating deluge is most probably extraterrestrial. In fact, the additional volume of water that remains upon the Earth is also most probably extraterrestrial. Bear in mind that comets are formed predominantly of ices, albeit a mixture of light hydrocarbons, such as methane, ammonia, carbon monoxide and water ice. One of the most recent examples of an extraterrestrial ice strike is the January 2007 story reported by NBC News, yet there have been many recorded long before airline droppings could be blamed.
The Tunguska Event coincided with an ammonium increase of greater than 200 parts per billion that researchers can’t account for as resulting from burning vegetation. As an ammonia-bearing comet, the explanation for both the atmospheric increase and the explosion over the nitrogen-rich Siberian tundra is clearly understandable. The ET ice chunk that detonated during the Tunguska Event produced energy equivalent to 10–15 megatons of TNT and that’s about 1,000 times more powerful than the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan.
But is all this merely hypothetical? Is there any evidence of the earth experiencing intense assault from extraterrestrial bodies? Sure there is. The Carolina Bays tell the story of a heavy cometary bombardment. As explained in Wikipedia, the orientation of the Carolina Bays
“varies from N16°W in eastcentral Georgia to N22°W in southern South Carolina, N39°W in northern South Carolina, N49°W in North Carolina, and N64°W in Virginia”
And this is to be expected of a planetary axis shift caused by the initial and successive impacts. Low-density comets, comprised mostly of methane, ammonia, carbon monoxide and water ice would leave a surface mar without the depth that a heavy-metal asteroid would produce upon impact. The Tunguska Event is proof enough of this fact.
Considering the orientation and also the location of the Carolina Bays, it is likely that the Atlantic Ocean received a substantial lot of strikes. If the cosmic body responsible for each bay was even a small fraction of the one responsible for the Tunguska detonation, we can well imagine that a tsunami of unimaginable proportion might have resulted. But, given that the Carolina Bays are still visible, we can be certain that the Carolinas weren’t deluged by an incoming tsunami. Nevertheless, modern studies of palaeoclimatology and the anomalous geological formations show us that the legends relayed to us through sacred texts can be read easily as chronicles of major Holocene events.
