Have you find yourself prospering in your workouts, making sure you combine the main three elements to success weight training, cardio, and nutrition, and yet somehow you feel like you could be doing more? Follow these techinques to take your workouts to the next level.
The first technique we will look at is called supersets. Supersets are two exercises that are performed for opposing muscle groups. For instance you could do a set of pullups and then immediately do a set of bench presses. This has several advantages, the first benefit is in both of these exercises you are working the same secondary muscles such as shoulders, triceps, biceps, and that allows you to train them with greater volume without directly targeting them. The second benefit is you allow for greater recovery on the both chins and bench presses because you are moving to another movement and when you return you will be stronger , then if you did one exercise and went from set to set on an individual exercise. The third benefit is this speeds up your metabolism, which helps with fat burning.
Compound sets are similar to supersets, except you are working the same muscle. An example would be lat pulldowns immediately followed by a set of cable rows. The benefit to this is it allows you to target a muscle from different angles. With a muscle group like back this is very beneficial, as the back is a diverse and complex group of muscles. They are also a time saver and be of great benefit if you have a muscle group that needs specific attention.
Drop sets are a technique that you use on an exercise you want to take to muscular failure, meaning you cannot do any more reps, then you immediately pick up a lighter weight and continue. For instance you may start with dumbell curls you start with 40lbs, go to failure, then go down to 30lbs and repeat, then go to 20lbs and repeat. The benefit of this is it combines intensity and volume in one extended set. This is also saves time as it allows you to do more work in less time, and also allows for greater concentration on the target muscle. This also increases the metabolic rate, and thus leads to greater fat loss. The key is cycling these methods and as with anything else moderation.
