How many animals were on Noah’s Ark?
Practically everyone knows the story that the animals came on the ark two by two. How many times have biblical scenes, toy arks and other things reflecting the story of Noah’s flood displayed the animals either going on the ark or in the ark with one male and one female of each animal or fowl?.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noah’s_Ark
Unfortunately, repeating a story often does not make it true. Is that what the Bible says regarding the animals and fowl that were gathered and protected by Noah with God’s guidance during the flood? As with anything, one should really inspect the scriptures to know what is really being said.www.tektonics.org/af/arkbeasts.html
The first thing that needs to be inspected is the standard discussed for the gathering of the numerous life forms. One needs to know that the gathering of clean or unclean life forms was clearly established.
Genesis 7:2 states, “Of every clean beast thou shall take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beast that are not clean by two, the male and his female.”
First, we need to know that God doesn’t flip flop around with a standard. The standard is “by sevens”, the male and his female; meaning that would equate to 14 clean animals of one specie.
The misconception is probably created with the unclean animals coming on the ark by two, the male and his female. Since the set standard of clean animals is “seven”, the unclean standard is by “two”, the male and his female….or four of the total number of unclean.
The standard is repeated in the following verse for fowl in Genesis 7:3 which states, “Of fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth”. One can deduce that the standard for unclean fowls is the same even though the Bible doesn’t specifically address it, by two, the male and the female which would equal four of each bird specie that was classified unclean.
It appears Noah’s Ark was a lot more crowded than people thought.www.christiananswers.net/q-eden/edn-c013.html
You would have to assume God was very wise about not just having two, the male and female on the ark anyway due to accidents, sickness or being eaten. If there were only two of each animal as normally depicted in erroneous displays of Noah’s Ark, one death would mean the end of that specie.
Additionally, there could not be just two animals anyway because after Noah’s Ark rested on the mountains of Ararat according to Genesis 8:20, Noah built an altar and sacrificed one of every clean animal unto the Lord. If there would have been only two of each clean animal, the probability of propagating the animal kingdom would be nil.
The biblical pieces always fit together with other scripture as long as there is no deviation to what the Bible actually says. Confusion is generated when those that don’t know repeat what they think the Bible says or merely repeat what was told to them by someone who doesn’t really know.
