It’s hard to believe that choosing the word “Forward” as President Obama’s 2012 campaign slogan wasn’t researched before being released this weekend as the president officially began his campaign for re-election.
The president campaigned this past weekend and announced his highly-anticipated 2012 slogan via a 7 minute and 17 second video.

The video gives a summary of the things the president has done in the past three-and-a-half years that Obama must feel are his major accomplishment. The only surprise in the video – other than the slogan “Forward” – is the use of the “S” word which Obama has left out of his vocabulary for the past three years – the word “stimulus.”
Stimulus, revived in his campaign video, is still viewed by many as the reason for the extreme debt the county has amassed during the Obama administration. Of course, the video presentation still tries to blame former President George W. Bush for that, even though Bush obviously had nothing to do with Obama spending many trillions more.
The concern with the word “Forward” being used as an American president’s slogan is apparent to persons who know world history. “Forward” has been a term that radical Socialists, Marxists, and communists used throughout history indicate the movement beyond capitalist governments.
More specifically, “Forward” has been continually used, primarily in Europe, in socialist and politically leftist publications. In Germany, for example “Vorwarts” (the German word for “forward”) was the actual name of the famous magazine that published writings by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels.
The German word was used for another German publication promoting the Social Democratic Party of Germany with Wilhelm Liebknecht as its editor. Liebknecht was the principal founder of the Social Democratic Party of Germany.
The word “Forward” also has historic ties to the Italian Socialist Party, the Communist League, and the Communist Party in Cuba.
Now, adding to the historical and political perspective of the word “Forward” is President Barack Obama’s 2012 American presidential re-election campaign slogan.
Then again, perhaps the word was researched, and the new slogan was Team Obama’s choice because of – rather than despite – the historical implications. Incidentally, Obama kicked off his re-election campaign on May 5th – Karl Marx’s birthday.
