I sat down with Paige Hankla of Lexington, KY creator/promoter of the PlayThink! Movement Festival. She is very excited about all the plentiful workshops and fun that will be available for families in the surrounding areas. If you are looking for a new way to start off your summer fun this definitely fits the bill. It will be a fun time for adults and children alike. It is a great way to motivate your family to stay active this summer.
Paige says that she wanted to create a festival that was all about the fun of each of these unique activities. She continued to come back to the importance of having fun. Really that is what it should all be about. There are so many ways to stay fit, to stay healthy, and to stay in a state of wellness, and they all should be fun. She is providing the platform for experimentation of many varieties of activities and different techniques to spark imagination and freedom to move in a thoughtful, playful way.
There will be 70 different workshops, you may choose up to eight of them a day, from local instructors and supporters of many different flow arts. There will be yoga, hooping, poi, martial arts, staff, dance, and many more. Children seven and older will be able to choose from several workshops including, clowning around, drumming, and even juggling. The festival will be held at HomeGrown HideAways in Berea, KY on June 8 – 10, 2012. There is 200 acres so there will be plenty of room to explore and develop new skills and techniques learned throughout the day.
There will be three planned community meals during the three day event. There will be an evening meal provided on Friday and Saturday and a morning meal on Sunday. This will be prepared by Accent Cuisine’sChef Josh Moore. Be sure to bring enough food and water to prepare for the duration of your fun. Also be aware that no pets are allowed.
I asked Paige what she thought was some of the things one should bring to such a festival to ensure a pleasant experience. She said to bring lots of water, and then she said to be sure to bring all the flow toys and costumes you would like. Really how can you not have fun when there will be an opportunity to play with toys and costumes? Please remember also that this is a campsite, be sure to bring insect repellent and trash receptacles to keep your area clean.
If you were looking for a fun, energetic way to kick off your family summer events…please check it out.
