Katherine Forsythe, one of our favorite love letter writers, was the turn-to teen comfortable with the subject of sex, a talent that blossomed into a vital career as a sex educator, and as she has aged so has her clientele. When she was 30 she had a seminar for teens called Sex Camp, a weekend co-ed retreat to help them understand what was okay. What do boys that age think? Girls? Today she coaches people at midlife and beyond; What do men that age think about? Women? Comfort is contagious. Enter Kat who is not just relaxed with the world of sex at mid-life but joyful and encouraging. She is both knowledgeable and merry about the whole subject and wants everyone else to be, too.
Kat’s newest book, Sexperienced, Guide for the Seasoned Woman Seeking New Possibilities is now available as a guide to go intelligently and safely into new sexual relationships or stay more happily in old ones. She answers questions many people might not have even thought to ask. Her zest for the whole world of sex is a gift. I am still smiling from her good-natured response to the young man at the drugstore who asked her, as he rang up her purchases, if the condoms were for her grandson (wink, wink). I’d have bopped him one, but Katherine, who seizes any opportunity to educate, told them they were for her.
Her monthly Sex on the Porch seminar is a glorious gathering of women at midlife plus (45 – 85 years old) where any kinds of questions about intimacy and relationships and sexuality are posed. And, answered. Katherine beams as she says, “I cover everything under the covers”.
Her book Sexperienced is a result of the questions asked on Sex on the Porch. “How do I appear on the boulevard as a sexy woman?” “Is what I want to do normal?” “What if I have low libido?” “What if I have high libido?” Are her seminars and consultations clinical? She laughs, “Only if it needs to be for giving good information concerning products like lubricants, which you can find on my website, otherwise it is very personal.” She is very clear that an important ingredient is sense of humor and listening to your gut. Katherine is still the turn-to girl for advice, facts, and encouragement. For a treat to yourself no matter what age you are, you might want to listen to Katherine talk about sex. Her tone of voice alone is a safe haven in what is sometimes a very confusing world.
