Well I sure picked a good time to run the title of Obamacare’s “likely demise”. I will try harder in the future to forego predictions because they don’t pan out. Having written that, I will venture a couple of more predictions and that is Obama will win re-election and Obamacare will never be repealed. There, that ought to seal his fate along with his power grab over our lives.
To be sure this monstrosity of a law is certainly designed to regulate our lives and will continue to do so as time goes by. Just as an example, in other articles where I received criticism, the left chimed in over the danger that overweight people have on the world’s resources and the U.S. health care system in particular. This is a sign of things to come. They correctly rationalize that if government is footing the bill, it then becomes a public interest to drive down cost by regulating what we eat and drink. What’s stopping the government to force less sugar in an ingredient, or indeed the portions in which food is served in the name of the “public interest”?
We already saw this in action when the president waved his hand one morning and forced Catholic hospitals to offer free contraceptives to women. He can do that because government sets the rules now. He simply made up a rule with the calculation that giving away free pills will override the objections of religious liberty. He then framed the debate that if you’re not for his decision then you must be at “war” with women. Nice trick. Not only are religious institutions losing their rights but he also made it easier for liberal men to score with babes.
In a state of liberty we can cajole overweight people to live better lives, or perhaps tone down a bit the great time they seem to be having at kitchens and restaurants. Now that we’re in a collective arrangement things are different. Now the obtuse are threatening to make things more expensive for the rest of us because they are now a drain on our collective system of health. The same with smokers and drinkers and perhaps drug addicts or perhaps not because when it comes to drugs we’re talking baby boomers and they looove their drugs and it’s the boomers whom, for the most part, are at the age of running things.
Another more sinister by-product of Obamacare is the latent mechanism in which insurance companies are restricted to make too much of a profit if any at all. Profits are so like evil and stuff and no one should profit from other people’s ill health. It would be a grand achievement for the left to see health insurance companies fold up their tents and just leave their functions to liberal government. Liberals, like their communist pals, have a particular hatred for big business and the profits they make. Health care is a fitting and lasting start to do away with all that and from there move onto the next “public interest”. The frog boils on.
