Who decides whether you are successful or not? What is the gauge that you use to indicate when you have arrived at that lofty position? If you are like most of us, you base your opinion of success on what others think of your work, how well you are being recognized, encouraged – and the monetary rewards that accumulate along with these goals.
The Bible tells us in Ephesians 2:10 “For we are what He has made us.” And in Genesis 1:31 it speaks of that creation – “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.” God doesn’t make mistakes. God gifted you with potential and a vision. Along with those, you were given a set of unique attributes – skills and talents to match your vision – giving you exactly what you need to bring your dreams into reality.
When you begin with those thoughts, you realize that everyone has his or her own vision worth striving for – utilizing their own skills and talents with a unique purpose all their own. Any competition you see would be negated – because it would involve perfection on both sides.
If you continue to feel competitive, you are competing against yourself. Those are your own thoughts that threaten you – or your own goals you are surpassing. Even if it appears to be a co-worker or a neighbor who stands in your way – it is your choice to see that as a threat or simply ignore it, see it as encouragement to better yourself, and continue with your work. You are the one who is seeing the roadblocks in the way of your success. Step out of your own way and glory in this perfect child of God you see in the mirror.
The Bible reminds us of that wonderful feeling of being safe. In the 23rd Psalm, David’s words gently bring our thoughts to a fertile valley with a stream running lazily through – where Spirit invites us to lie down in the tall grasses of a lush meadow and simply remember that our God has brought us here and will always be around to guide, protect and comfort us.
Competition is not even part of the equation. God made everything and saw it as perfect. Each gift and ability you have is uniquely yours to express successfully in God’s perfection. There is a specific path for you and for you alone to follow to express that Success. When you take a moment and breathe in deeply, quiet your thoughts and feel the connection to Spirit that is within you always – you will see that path open before you. God’s loving guidance will shepherd you through.
Silent Unity offers the prefect affirmation for us: “With Spirit as my guide. I am successful.”
