Since the beginning of the latest season (6) of “Ice Road Truckers,” viewers have been asking “where is Lisa Kelly?” Both she and the only other woman on the series, Maya Sieber, are missing from the list of drivers for this season.
Lisa Kelly had been on the show since season three, and was quite popular. Of course, her popularity (and Maya’s) might have had something to do with her looks, but hey, what can you say about a beautiful woman doing a tough job in a male-dominated field – it’s bound to attract interest, particularly male interest.
[Examples: Sieber’s own webpage has hand-autographed photos of her, at least one in a bikini. Kelly’s site has a store, as well, but no photos in a swimsuit.
You can view a slideshow featuring both women at our earlier coverage, here.]
In a recent interview with producer Thom Beers of Original Productions, the company that produces Ice Road Truckers, Zap2It managed to get the statement that has been missing from The History Channel. The question was posed by Kate O’Hare:
“While I had Beers’ ear, I asked him a question that many blog commenters have been asking since the premiere of the new season of another of his shows, History’s Ice Road Truckers—’Where is Lisa Kelly?’”
His answer was:
“We offered her a contract to return, and she chose not to. That’s it. We invited her back. Love to have her. She’s taking a year off, realizing that she might not be able to get another show. But she’s an interesting woman. We liked her.
“The thing what we liked about her more than anyone else — she’s the one person of them all that showed real fear.
“I wish her luck, and I wish she was back.”
As the season began, we speculated that Lisa Kelly may have bolted from the show over issues similar to those of Dave Redmon, who appeared in season 5 and had a contentious relationship with the show and was ultimately fired.
Also, Kelly seems to have no end to appearance opportunities, based on looking at her Facebook page. Those can be quite lucrative, and eschew the need to be on a reality TV show.
In reality (no pun intended), we may never know the exact truth. That said, viewers are still hoping for Kelly’s return, perhaps in season 7 of “Ice Road Truckers.”
The next episode of “Ice Road Truckers,” “Desperate Measures,” airs July 1 on the History Channel at 9:00 p.m. ET.
