Makeup artist’s education has so often been associated with California but to make a change one of the industries educational leaders Make-up Designory (MUD) opened their second campus here in New York City in 2005 and all of their makeup courses at the NYC campus are taught by experienced, professional artisans who are licensed by the state of New York.
Each year the New York school trains hundreds of students in a variety of make-up specialties allowing the students at the New York location have the choice to study the intricacies of prosthetics or the delicacy of beauty make-up.
For first time students a course to consider is Beauty 101, this offers the fundamentals of Beauty Make-up.Recently at the IMATS industry show in New York a meeting with Jennifer Heslop Career Services Advisor New York Campus recommended this program as a base, as students are able to practice their skills with guidance from a qualified course instructor. Once a student is successful in the completion of the course they are qualified for an entry-level position as a make-up artist. Opportunities leading from this course in the make-up field are: entertainment, theatrical, retail, bridal, society, salon/spa and special events.
The Fashion Make Up Artistry program teaches techniques through live interactive presentations, students enjoy this area in Make-up education as they are keen for hands on study. The Beauty 101 course is broken down into the following; Fundamentals of Beauty Makeup 210 hours, Studio Hairstyling for the Make-up Artist 105 hours and Beauty Lab 77 hours. MUD is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Career Schools and Colleges; ACCSC and is listed by the U.S. department of Education as a national recognized accrediting agency.
There are a number of other specialist courses that lead from Beauty Make-up, including Film and Television Make-up, Multimedia Make-up, Master Make-up, as well as continuing education courses for artists who are looking to enhance their chosen area of industry employment.
When Makeup-Up Designory set out to establish a campus on the east coast, New York City was the obvious choice, as the city brings together the best of the fashion, theater and cosmetics industries. The school’s campus in New York occupies a 5,000 square foot space in SoHo, housed in a 19th century loft that has typical SoHo features of 100 year old hardwood floors and tin ceilings, not the usual class room setting. The main area houses a Learning Resource Center, Make-up Studios, a free standing photo/video space and that is where students have their work captured in a professional photo shoot to be critiqued on camera .
The New York Make-up Designory school is located at 375 Broadway, Suite 202, New York, NY 10012, and the administration office can be contacted on 212-925-9250 for any aspiring New Yorkers keen on entering the make-up world.
