Jessica Sanchez already signed with Interscope Records for her debut album just a few weeks after the American Idol runner up lost to AI winner Phillip Phillips last May in one of primetime TV’s most watched and most talked about singing contests.
Prior to her record deal, Jessica had been busy making guest appearances in various events to sing the “Star Spangled Banner” including two prominent sports events, the Pacquiao-Bradley boxing fight and the recently concluded NBA Finals during the opening game between The Miami Heat and The Oklahoma City Thunder.
Jessica joins Interscope’s list of prominent artists including pop icons Madonna, Lady Gaga and Gwen Stefani, Gen X bands Van Halen, No Doubt, Bush and U2, rapper Eminem, The Black Eyed Peas and new artists LMFAO among other artists signed to the record label.

Jessica is currently talking to ‘Glee’ executives and is reportedly on final negotiations regarding her multiple appearances on the high school musical dramedy’s Season 4. Jessica’s role in the TV program is still unknown although fans are speculating about possible duets with Broadway star Lea Michele (Rachel) and international pop star Charice (Sunshine).
The teenage songstress is also busy preparing for the American Idol tour set to hold performances in key cities in the US and other countries including the Philippines and Canada.
Earlier claims regarding Jessica’s solo concert in her Filipina mother’s hometown and other cities in the Philippines and her appearance in the upcoming JLo concert in the Philippines as front act had been reported to be untrue since no negotiations with promoters had been finalized yet.
Jessica herself said they’re just rumors.
With Jessica’s new record label, fans could expect a youthful and more urban album from the young vocal powerhouse. During a recent interview with the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Jessica said her album is “going to be more of urban and R&B, with a bit of pop.”
Jessica Sanchez talks about debut album, future plans
Jessica’s final contest piece during American Idol’s final competition night was “Change Nothing”, a pop ballad that was a far cry from her vocally challenging songs during her journey to the Finals.
While fans expected a more Whitney-like performance during the last Phillips-Sanchez vocal showdown, Jessica sang a more “pop-py” vocally subduing contest piece. The petite 16 year old, however, explained that the song sort of represented who she truly was as an artist and that she was leaning towards a more urban direction in her future musical career.
In the meantime, American Idol winner Phillip Phillips is still healing from his kidney surgery and is set to come out with his own solo album soon. His winning song “Home” had already been released in the market and is now enjoying airplay on certain radio stations.
The coming months would be exciting for the two Idols as their careers are expected to take off in new directions. How music fans would receive their individual musical endeavors would be interesting and is definitely something to keep an eye out for.
