New mom Jessica Simpson has confirmed she’s the newest spokesperson for Weight Watchers. Simpson made the announcement May 30, 2012 on her Facebook page:
“It’s official, I’m joining Weight Watchers! The cool thing about the program is that it focuses on healthy habits for the long-term (and I can still indulge in my guilty pleasures every now and then too). I have actually gotten a group of friends together who are going to be doing it with me.”
While the details of her endorsement have not been released, Jessica will reportedly pocket over $3-4 million to shed her baby weight.
Simpson, who gave birth to her 9-pound daughter Maxwell Drew via C-section on May 1, reportedly gained 65-75 pounds during pregnancy—well over the 25-35 pounds doctors recommend. The 5-foot-3-inch Simpson weighed 220 pounds at term, and admitted she indulged all her cravings, including her favorite: a three-tiered sugary treat made of cookie dough and a layer of Oreo cookie.
Jessica, whose weight has fluctuated dramatically over the years, has said she’s really looking forward to getting back in shape.
“I had a great pregnancy. Eating and not having to worry too much about it has been fun,” said Simpson. “Taking a break from working out has definitely been fun. But I’m ready for it to be over. I’m ready to have my body back!”
Jessica, once a successful pop singer, has crossed over into reality TV success and now helms a $1 billion-dollar fashion merchandising empire that includes a clothing line, fragrances, shoes, handbags, intimate apparel, swimwear and a skincare range. Simpson, who has been mocked for gaining weight, said her curves have made her super-rich.
“They can talk about my weight and my career but as long as I’m happy that’s all that matters,” she laughed. “I’m laughing all the way to the bank!
Simpson, 31, is engaged to marry former NFL star Eric Johnson, 32.
