It’s always exciting to be at a fashion show, and on May 19th the JLC Models Club held their 2012 Spring Commencement Presentation of the graduates from the 10th workshop. This also marked the Georgia debut of this unique, faith-based organization. An auspicious affair attended by a lucky and select crowd, they were treated to light refreshments at the Historic Hollingsworth House of Fayetteville. The event was hosted by the founder and director of the Models Club, Ms. Janice Lawrence-Clarke.
I’ve attended some of Ms. Lawrence-Clarke’s events, so I knew this would be an experience not to be missed. This event, however, appeared to be a serious soiree due to the nature of the milestone. It’s very rare for a models club such as this to reward their participants in this fashion after their hard work. This year there were five recipients that got a chance to show what they have learned in the 10-week workshop. Those models in the graduating class were Krystal Reeves, Mary Alice Chapman, Karina D-Charles, Skylar Royal, and Kaylon Nichole Brooks.
The workshops enable the participants to focus on areas of modeling such as Introduction to Modeling, Visual Poise, Posing, Walking, Fashion Coordination and a host of other areas beneficial to their craft. What is also unique is the emphasis on academics re school work. Those models enrolled in school must maintain an above average minimum grade in order to be involved in the workshop activities. Saturday’s commencement event was the finale of the course where the models receive Certificates of Completion, and gifts of appreciation acknowledging their efforts.
Due to the tireless efforts of Ms. Lawrence-Clarke, the event went smoothly, even though there were some technical glitches not caused by man but machine. Most notably and important to this event was her support: Mr. J. Parker Griffin (Model) who Co-Hosted, Derrick Harvey, (CFO), JLC Productions. Visual support was provided by Videographer Dana Gresham of Blend Media.
