The Kansas Golf Association Senior Series began their 2012 season on Monday May 7th at Shoal Creek Golf Course in Kansas City. The course is an 18-hole Championship Par 71 course which was made harder on Monday by the heavy rains from the night before. The wet ground kept down some of the roll of the ball in the fairways and meant players had to walk further due to not being able to drive in the fairways.
In the 50 to 54 Division Gross Scoring Tim Tyner of Council Grove, Kansas took the first spot with a one over par 72. Brad Swanson of Winfield, Kansas was in second with a two over 73 and was followed by a tie for third between David Pawlus of Parsons, Kansas and Rj Opliger of Olathe, Kansas with a three over par 74. In the Net Scoring Russell Hefner of Lindsborg, Kansas took first with a one under par 70. Tim Tyner took second in a tie with Brad Swanson who shot even par 71.
Andy Smith of Kansas City, Missouri was in first place of the 55 to 59 Division Gross Scoring with a four over par 75. Second place was taken by Bob Hartmann of Shawnee, Kansas who shot a five over 76. Kevin Handlan of Leawood, Kansas shot a six over 77 to take third place. Net Scoring led to a three way tie for first with Patrick Anderson of Topeka, Kansas, Jeff Rader of Glen Elder, Kansas and Andy Smith who shot even par 71.
In the 60 to 64 Division Gross Scoring David Rhodes of Olathe, Kansas scored three over par 74 for first place. He was followed by David Sanders of Overland Park, Kansas with a four over 75 in second place and Maurice Terrebonne of Wichita, Kansas with a five over 76 for third place. David Rhodes who won the Gross Scoring also took first place in the Net Scoring with an even par 71. Monte Simonson of Olathe, Kansas tied for second with David Sanders and Maurice Terrebonne shooting two over 73.
Bill McDonald of Topeka, Kansas took first place in the 65 to 69 Division Gross Scoring with a three over par 74. A four over par 75 brought Michael Carey of Shawnee Mission, Kansas and Randy Klein of Leawood, Kansas to a tie for second place. The Net Scoring was won by Randy Klein who took third in Gross Scoring and Larry Fuqua of Hesston, Kansas with a two under par 69. Ron Brewer of Leawood, Kansas took third place with an even par 71.
First place in the 70 and Over Division Gross Scoring was taken by Don Cox of Lake Quivira, Kansas with a three over par 74. Darrell Harshaw of Topeka, Kansas shot a 15 over par 86 for second place beating out Peter Whitenight of Lawrence, Kansas who took third place with an 87. Don Cox also won first place in the Net Scoring with an even par 71. Peter Whitenight took second with a five over76 and was followed by Darrell Harshaw with a seven over 78.
The next Kansas Senior Series event is scheduled for May 8th at Tiffany Greens Golf Course in Kansas City, Missouri.
