If you’re looking for a fun getaway for Memorial Day, why not drive down the coast to The Half Moon Bay Brewing Company? Having just won a bronze medal at the prestigious World Beer Cup Brewmaster Kirk Hillyard is anxious to have you try his trophy snagging Amber Ale.
The Half Moon Bay Brewing Company was awarded the bronze medal in the American-Style Amber/Red Ale category for its Mavericks Amber Ale, a robust, balanced ale brewed with four malts and cascade hops. The Half Moon Bay Brewing Company’s best selling beer, Mavericks Amber Ale is as full-bodied as the legendary wave and surfing competition for which it was named.
“I feel extremely lucky to have won an award at the World Beer Cup. California makes the best beer in the world, and I am proud to be part of that success,” said Brewmaster Kirk Hillyard.
World Beer Cup winners were selected by an international panel of 218 beer judges from 29 countries. The competition—referred to as the “Olympics of Beer Competition”—saw an impressive field of nearly 4,000 entries from 828 breweries in 56 countries. The 2012 competition drew the largest, most international field of entrants in the history of the World Beer Cup. This is the first time the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company has won a medal at the competition.
The Amber however, isn’t the only tipple this boutique brewery is proud of. They proudly present brews to suit most any palate. You may choose from a menu that includes Bootleggers Brown Ale, Harbor Lights Ale, Princeton-by-the-Sea IPA, Sandy Beach Blond Hefeweizen, and Pillar Point Pale Ale. Seasonally they proudly offer their Maverick’s Pumpkin Harvest Ale and Devils Slide Summer Ale.
Recently selected by TravelandLeisure magazine as one of America’s Best Beach Bars, the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company is situated on picturesque Pillar Point Harbor overlooking the Marina in Princeton-by-the Sea. The Brewing Company is a casual coastal venue that has become an institution in the Half Moon Bay area for locals and visitors alike since opening in 2000.
