Mineralize Skinfinish in Star Wonder – Normally I’m not the biggest fan of the Mineralize Skinfinish since they can be too shimmery or contain glitter, which for my oily combination skin is not a great combination. After seeing swatches of both this and Light Year, I just couldn’t wait to get my hands on them. They didn’t contain too much glimmer and shimmer and they would make great blushes. It’s important to keep in mind your skin tone when deciding if you want them as a blush or highlighter. Star Wonder is a beauty dusty rose shade that could flatter many skin tones. This does have a nice hint of shimmer to it, but not too much to make my skin look like an oil slick – believe me some of the Mineralize Skinfinish products will do that.
Mineralize Skinfinish in Light Year – This was the first shade I knew I had to have. In the past I wasn’t the biggest fan of peach, but the color really is growing on me. This Skinfinish is a beauty light peach with a stronger hint of shimmer (more than Star Wonder), but not overbearing. If you have darker skin tone this would be a beautiful highlighter for you. I would definitely recommended seeing it in person before buying unless you know for a fact that it will work with you skin tone.
Lipstick in Venus – I ordered this on the initial swatch from Temptalia, but when I saw lip swatches I wasn’t sure if I was going to like the color. It’s a beautiful light pink shade, but it’s one that can really be hit or miss. I’m so glad I purchased this item because it really is a nice, beautiful neutral shade that’s absolutely perfect for your lazy summer days where you just want a little bit of color on your lips. I know lip stains are in, but this really is a great color for summer.
Lipstick in Fire Sign – Normally I stay away from reds because they don’t look very flattering on me, but I couldn’t help myself with this one. It’s a gorgeous (yes, I understand I use that and beautiful a lot in this post) pinky red. It’s a great choice if you’ve never owned a red lipstick and you’re looking for a shade that’s better for beginners. This is definitely the PERFECT red lipstick for newbies like myself.
Cremesheen Glass in Astral – I have a feeling this might give Looks Like Sin some competition for my favorite lip gloss. It doesn’t look like anything special in the swatch, but it really is a great summer shade (though, let’s be real, this would look fabulous anytime throughout the year). I would definitely consider this more of a pinky red shade with a small hint of shimmer. If the Fire Sign is a little too red for you then the Cremesheen Glass in Astral could be a better alternative for you. It goes on sheerer than the lipstick so it won’t be as intense for you if you haven’t worn red before.
My final thoughts
I just purchased Galaxy Rose Cremesheen Glass so I haven’t had the opportunity to try or photograph that item. You can expect a separate review on that in a day or two.
Overall rating – I really like this collection. I was starting to lose hope in MAC that they wouldn’t release a collection that I wasn’t completely disappointed in. Overall, I would give this collection an A-. This rating is based on the items that I purchased.
Must-have items – I would definitely say Fire Sign lipstick, Astral Cremesheen Glass, and Star Wonder Mineralize Skinfinish.
Can pass on – I like all my items, some more than others but I don’t think I would say you could pass on any of these. If you’re not into peach blushes (this is a very hit or miss shade) then you can skip Light Year.
