On Wednesday at 8 P.M. Magic Johnson and Comcast’s launched Atlanta’s newest digital cable network, Aspire. The NBA great will head up the network which is a joint venture between Comcast, Johnson and GMC Television. The basketball player turned media mogul Magic Johnson is no stranger to business in Atlanta. He operated his Magic Johnson Theaters close to the current location of Tyler Perry Studios for a number of years.
According to Comcast, Aspire will focus on inspirational and positive programing aimed at African-American families. It will offer unique and original programming. Right now the network is being distributed on Comcast and Time Warner cable with more cable systems to be added soon. Right now the network is available in just over seven million homes.
Some of the programs scheduled to air on the network include “Boyz ‘n the Hood,” “The Matrix”, “School Daze” and “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” all starring Laurence Fishburne. Omari Hardwick (Sparkle), will host the network’s first original series, “ABFF Independent”. Aspire airs on Atlanta Comcast channel 188 and GMC (Gospel Music Channel) airs on 189. Check your local listings for specific channel information for your area. If your cable system doesn’t offer Aspire call them and let then know that you want it.
