It’s finally summer; the season designated to having fun! With Boise’s large population of active people, the summer calendar usually includes some local races. But the typical 5k’s quickly get old. However, these five unique summer races will leave you happy, grateful, dirty, and ready to sign up for next year.
The “I Run For Chocolate” race put on by See Jane Run, the women’s athletic clothing store, caters to all runners at distances of 13.1 miles, the 5k, plus the 1 miles kids run. Registration for pre-race day packet pickup is quickly approaching; June 6. This fun-filled race offers a great course, awards, a post-race brunch at the Cottonwood Grille, and, of course, chocolate!
Cancer never sleeps. And neither will participating teams in Boise’s “Relay for Life.” It’s an over-night race to fundraise for the American Caner Society to keep fighting cancer. This is how it works: the teams will camp around the Bishop Kelly high school’s track and each member will take their turn in walking the track throughout the night. There are also games, food and activities to enjoy. The Boise “Relay for Life” will be held July 13-14. Register now!
“… so open wide and get your filthy fix on your newest addiction: a mere 16 miles from town [Bogus Basin], ‘The Dirty Dash,’” reads the official Dirty Dash website. This mud run obstacle course is a must for anyone looking for an adventure and some funny pictures. These mud run races are a craze currently sweeping the nation. Don’t miss out, if you register before June 13, you will still receive regular registration fees for this unique event to be held August 25, 2012.
Boise’s first “5k Foam Fest,” is a crazy spin-off of a mud run – but with foam! So this race is a little after summer (Sept. 15), but it’s won’t matter because it’ll feel like summer when you’re getting all foamy and muddy as you attempt the obstacles all around Eagle Island State Park. Be a pioneer in a type of race that is sure to quickly gain popularity. Register for this race now – they even promise a “sweet swag bag” for all participants.
“The only question is: Are you ready for the most crazy, colorful, 5k of your life? You bet you are” says Boise’s upcoming “Color Run” to be held August 4, 2012. There are strict rules to this 5k: 1) all participants are welcome, fast or slow; 2) wear a white shirt; and 3) “Completely colored Willy Wonka goodness at the finish.” There are four different color zones throughout the course in which participants will be showered in 100% natural and safe color dust! Not to mention, SELF magazine named this one of “The coolest races you gotta run this year.” Register soon!
