On Saturday, June 30, Regional Radiology Center will bring its state of the art Mobile Mammo Bus to the Alliance for the Arts’ weekly GreenMarket to provide breast cancer screenings to pre-registered women. No prescription will be necessary to access the digital mammography services. While the screenings are not free, most types of insurance will be accepted, and there will be discounted self-pay pricing available. Space is limited, so interested women should call 239-936-2316 to schedule their appointment.
It will be an extra busy day at GreenMarket on the 30th. Anna Withrow will continue her free yoga sessions at 9:30. They are suitable for all levels, and supervised children are encouraged to join in. Anyone interested in taking the free class should bring comfortable clothes and a yoga mat. “You might want to remember sunscreen and water and whatever else you need for your practice,” suggests Anna. “There is no charge to participate, but donations are gratefully accepted.”
And for the first time ever, Vicki Collins will present a knitting workshop. Vicki learned to knit as a young girl, and became a passionate knitter in mid-life. She takes delight in sharing her joy of hand knitting and wants to share her insights with others about classic and contemporary knitting styles.
“Knitting is my mode of meditation. It is a sensuous craft. Knitting soothes, delights, and challenges me to stretch myself beyond my comfort zone,” she explains. She’ll be knitting throughout the morning on the GreenMarket stage, in the shade of mature trees.
Inside the main gallery, the 26th Annual All Florida Juried Exhibition is still on display. This exhibition features paintings, photographs, sculpture and more from some of the most exciting artists from around the state, including Golden Apple and Best of Show winner Eric Riemenschneider.
July will kick off “Family Gardening Month” at GreenMarket. Santiago de Choch, GreenMarket Manager, will present a series of free organic gardening workshops for kids and their families. This series is made possible with support of the Rotary Club of Fort Myers.
The Alliance GreenMarket is open year-round on Saturday mornings, and strives to support and promote local growers, artisans, gardeners, beekeepers and bakers.
