Police in Baton Rouge have arrested 22-year-old Lashay Bradley and charged her with negligent homicide in the bathtub drowning death of her 11-month-old daughter Lailah Bradley. The tragic incident happened last night at approximately 9:15 p.m.
According to wwltv.com in New Orleans, Sgt. Don Kelly of the Baton Rouge Police Department stated that the child was left unattended in the bathtub, with the water running, for an unknown amount of time.
When the mother returned, Kelly says the baby apparently slipped under the water and was unresponsive.
The infant died at LSU’s Earl K. Long Medical Center.
According to the arrest affidavit secured by The Advocate, the mother stated that she had “forgotten” the infant had been left unattended in the tub.
LaShay R. Bradley, 22, told Baton Rouge police detectives that she left the bathroom and began talking with other people inside her home at 4888 Hooper Road, the affidavit says.
An unknown amount of time went by before Bradley said she remembered leaving her daughter, Lailah Bradley, alone in the bathtub, the affidavit says. Bradley said when she went back into the bathroom she found her daughter floating face down in the water in the bathtub ….
The forgetful mother has been booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a count of negligent homicide.
