The Midwestern State football team announced their schedule for the 2012 season on Thursday afternoon. The 10 game slate includes four games at Memorial Stadium, a trip to Livingston, Alabama, and a nationally televised game on the CBS Sports Network.
The 2012 regular season begins with a familiar foe when the Mustangs travel to Stephenville to face Tarleton State on September 8.
MSU took their second straight victory over the Texans with a 44-13 win in 2011, the first time in more than a decade the Mustangs took two in a row from TSU. The Mustangs snapped a seven game losing streak to the Texans in 2010.
The Mustangs will have a rematch against Texas A&M-Commerce as part of the 2012 LSC Football Festival. The game at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington will be televised nationally on the CBS Sports Network as part of their NCAA Division II package.
The Mustangs rolled up 592 yards of offense on their way to a 63-17 shellacking of the Lions at the 2011 LSC Football Festival.
After a swing through Kingsville to take on Texas A&M-Kingsville, MSU will have their home opener on September 29 against Incarnate Word. The 2012 home debut will also be Family Day at Memorial Stadium.
The Mustangs and Cardinals have only met three times before, with MSU taking the win in all three games. In the Cardinals only other appearance at Memorial Stadium in 2010, MSU took a 38-31 victory in an overtime thriller.
Wrapping up a significant first half schedule, MSU travels to Livingston, Alabama to take on West Alabama of the Gulf South Conference. The game is the first of two for MSU as part of the LSC-GSC First and Ten Challenge initiated this season.
The MSU/West Alabama match up is tentatively scheduled to be broadcast on GSC-TV Live which appears through regional channels through the South and Southwest.
The Mustangs open the second half of the season with their official Homecoming Game against LSC rival Angelo State. MSU has won their last two meetings against the Rams and have taken five of the last six games, the only loss being a 20-17 nail biter in San Angelo in 2009.
A three game stretch including road games against Abilene Christian and West Texas A&M and a home game against Eastern New Mexico leads to the regular season finale. The Mustangs play host to West Georgia in the final LSC-GSC match up of the season.
The final game of the regular season will also be Military Appreciation Day at Memorial Stadium.
The reigning LSC Champions, Midwestern State is coming off their most successful season as they finished the regular season 10-0 for the first time in program history. They enter the 2012 season ranked No. 4 nationally by Lindy’s Sports College Football Preview and No. 5 by USA Today 2012 College Football.
Senior quarterback Brandon Kelsey and junior running back Keidrick Jackson both received second team recognition in the 2012 Lindy’s Preseason All America Team honors.
