In a recent press release Live Nation shared that with tons of smash hit songs and millions and millions of albums sold between them, the five bands comprising this year’s Summerland are still a constant presence on the airwaves across the country and represent a true value for concert fans.
“We’ve wanted to do a tour like this for a long time and we’re so excited to be hitting the road with our friends to bring you this huge summer party,” said Everclear front man Art Alexakis. Sugar Ray lead singer Mark McGrath added “Get out your flip flops and your shades because Summerland is going to be a blast.”
Summerland 2012 bands are:
Everclear: Art Alexais, lead vocals/guitar; Davey French, guitar/vocals; Freddy Herrera, bass/vocals; Sean Winchester, drums, vocals; Josh Crawley, keyboards vocals.
With hits like the modern rock radio staples “Santa Monica,” “Everything to Everyone,” “I Will Buy You a New Life,” “Father of Mine” and “Wonderful,” Everclear has sold more than 9 Million albums globally. Fronted by Art Alexakis, Everclear remains a potent force on the touring circuit. The band is currently in the studio in Los Angeles working on their first original album in 6 years, which will be released in time for the Summerland tour.
Sugar Ray: Mark McGrath, vocals/guitars; Rodney Sheppard, lead guitar/backing vocals; Jesse Bivona, drums/backing vocals; Justin Bivona, bass/backing vocals; Al Keith, percussion/vibes.
Perhaps best known for their 1997 breakthrough Number One song “Fly,” Sugar Ray dominated the pop charts throughout the 90s with such hits as “Every Morning,” “Someday,” and the 2001 hit “When It’s Over.” These hugely successful tracks propelled Sugar Ray, and their charismatic lead singer Mark McGrath, to selling 10 Million records worldwide.
Gin Blossoms: Robin Wilson, Lead Vocals; Jesse Valenzuela, Guitar/Vocals; Bill Leen, bass; Scotty Johnson, guitar; Scott Hessel, Drums
Fans around the world are very familiar with Gin Blossoms’ 5X Platinum breakthrough album New Miserable Experience, containing gems like “Until I Fall Away,” “Found Out About You,” “Hey Jealousy” and “Alison Road.” Those hit tracks were followed up by Empire Records Platinum Soundtrack hit, “Til I Hear It From you,” and in 1996, by the singles “Follow you Down” and “As Long As It Matters” which hit the radio in a big way, making their Congratulations I’m Sorry record another platinum success.
Lit: A Jay Popoff, vocals; Jeremy Popoff, guitar; Kevin Baldes, bass; Ryan Gillmor, guitar/keyboards; Nathan Walker, drums.
Lit’s first new album in 8 years, The View From The Bottom, is scheduled for release on June 19 and is the band’s first album since the passing of founding member and drummer Allen Shellenberger. Lit first broke through in 1999 with their album A Place In The Sun, which spawned the Number One modern rock song of the year, “My Own Worst Enemy,” and the Top Ten single “Miserable.” Since then the band has been a fixture on the radio and on the road all over the world.
Marcy Playground: John Wozniak, lead vocals/guitar; Dylan Keefe, bass/vocals; Shlomi Lavie, drums.
This trio’s 1997 hit, “Sex and Candy,” is one of the most iconic hit songs of the era. Since then they have toured consistently and released several additional albums including 2010’s remix album Indaba Remixes from Wonderland.
