“No man is truly married until he understands every word his wife is NOT saying.”

This quote is not only funny but also hints of truth. Men are constantly found saying that they don’t understand women. One of the main reasons men have difficulty understanding women is that women tend to use body language more than speech. For example:
James and Pam have been dating for 4 years. They know each other pretty well, but consider themselves to know each other extremely well. James has decided to treat Pam to a night out on the town. Pam is excited to be pampered by her boyfriend, while getting some romantic alone time. Unfortunately Pam has to work a little late and James made reservations. Pam tells James that she will hurry and to go secure their reservations and she will be right over as soon as possible. James innocently goes to secure their reservations orders himself a drink and runs into an old friend. James and his old friend sit at the table drinking a pitcher of beer. Pam comes walking in 45 minutes later. James doesn’t notice Pam walking into the restaurant but notices that her boyfriend looks drunk and made a friend. Trying to keep her aggravation of having to share her romantic rendezvous she puts on a big smile and walks over to greet her boyfriend. James innocently says “Hey honey” smiles and continues talking to his buddy. Now Pam’s aggravation is growing into anger. James and his friend keep up conversation and Pam attempts to jump into the conversation only to be ignored. James’s friend decides he’s going to go home and BBQ and invites James and Pam to come on over. James immediately goes “yeah that would be awesome!” then looks over to Pam and says “or what do you think do you want to go or eat here?” Now Pam is enraged. She worked hard all day and rushed to hurry for a romantic night out with her boyfriend only to find he didn’t need her to have a good time. Pam feels like she should have just stayed at work. James and his friend are staring at Pam waiting for an answer. Pam squints her eyes a little, takes a deep breath lets it out, and tells James “ok fine.” To James the “ok fine” sounds like Pam is smiling and saying “Yes! I would love to! That sounds like so much fun!” when in reality Pam was trying to nicely get her “no” out in the open while trying to appease her man.
A woman thinks that her man should know what she is thinking just by the way she looks at him or the tone in her voice. Eventually with time and effort couples can successfully but never completely understand everything each other is NOT saying. The effort is the most important part. Hugh fights can ensue when a couple thinks that they understand each other when in reality they are completely far from it. Understanding your spouse is an ongoing struggle that takes time, compassion, long conversations, and open honest feelings.
