George Giordano has been a part of the movie industry in one way or another for over thirty years.
He has been a part of such cult favorites as The Toxic Avenger to Hercules:The Legendary Journeys to Labyrinth.
And more recently George has used his skills from years of movie making to create a fan-film based on his favorite video game franchise: Fallout.
During the Comicpalooza convention I had the opportunity to speak with George, and learned about his love of fun, working in the industry, and the work it takes to create a bad fan film.
Mr. Giordano’s answers are in bold.
So, why make a bad fan-film on purpose ?
Let’s be realistic, there aren’t really any good fan films. So, I decided, I would make sure my fan-film was bad on purpose. There’s plenty of bad lip synching, cheesy dialogue, and plenty of dumb stuff in the film. But everybody whose seen the film, has a really good laugh.
You’re a fan of the Fallout game, why make fun of it in the fan-film ?
Well, there’s all kinds of glitches in the game, and it’s a completely crazy concept. For example, in the game there’s a door that everyone blows open rather than picking the lock, even though that’s an option. So, in the film we have someone try to pick the lock and fail just to show that it won’t work , and the guy blows open the lock with explosives anyway. Some people have got bent out of shape, but this is all done in fun. I did the props so everything in the film looks like it came from a Hollywood set, but, the acting, sound, and everything else stinks, and that’s done on purpose.
Is this your first time at Comicpalooza or to Texas ?
No, I was here in 2011 with the crew of the Airship Isabella, a steam punk group. We had a lot of fun, I really had a blast here, and even made some of the props used by the group.
I even moved my shop from California, and work out of Plantersville, TX now.
So was the dragon the used at the Renaissance Festival at Halloween yours ?
It was ,but it got tired, so I built a new haunted house using props and monsters from movies I’ve worked on. It’s really cool to see people get scared and surprised by the stuff I built for films.
With all the digital special effects being used these days, do you think physical effects will still be needed ?
Actors are always going to need something to act to, so there’s always going to be a need for physical effects in movies.
