The donations were in response to an email Mitt Romney sent out after the Supreme Court ruled that Obama’s health care plan is constitutional due to the punishment for non-compliance is – according to Justice Roberts – a tax and nothing else.
Of course, looking at it Robert’s way, the government has the right to place a tax on Americans. The dispute, however, arose because President Barack Obama made it clear numerous times in the past that his health plan is, in fact, not a tax.
Initially it was reported that Romney had raised $2.5 million, but that was only up until 1:33 p.m. on Thursday, in the first three-and-a-half hours after the Supreme Court’s decision was released. Contributions continued throughout the day.
