Last night’s Smackdown episode was entertaining and something that we all needed to see. For the past two months we have not had an episode of Raw or Smackdown that was worthy of praise. Thanks to the firing of Laurinaitis we have had two weeks of solid entertainment.
Vickie Guerrero was last night’s General Manager and proved that the show can be improved if you work at it. She set up a show that was all about the upcoming Pay per View Money in The Bank. The PPV is two weeks away in Downtown Phoenix, Arizona.
This episode of Smackdown consisted of four qualifying matches for the Money in the Bank match. Whoever the winner is will go on the face the World Heavyweight Champion within a year of retrieving the briefcase.
These matches were all competitive and kept you interested till the end. We saw new faces competing and new superstars qualifying for the big PPV match. The five men that qualified were Damien Sandow, Christian, Santino Marella, Tyson Kidd, and Lord Tensai.
Divas Champion Layla took on the mentally unstable AJ in a good match, seeing as the Divas usually struggle to put on something that keeps our attention. This match was interrupted by Daniel Bryan and ended with Layla getting the pin.
We also witnessed a triple threat match for the World title between Sheamus, Del Rio, and Ziggler. We all knew that the champ would retain but it was a well fought match none the less. Seeing the title contended upon this close to a PPV is something we all like to witness. Will the title be in the hands of someone new or will the champ retain? That is what makes a show fun to watch.
In my opinion this episode of Smackdown showed promise for better episodes to come, especially with Teddy Long returning as General Manager for both Raw and Smackdown next week. All I can say is stay tuned for more action next week for a Live Super Smackdown Great American Bash!
