This Friday was in for a shocking surprise in a fuzzy way, yes Seth MacFarlane has won over audiences again with his cute, adorable foul mouthed teddy bear Ted. This bear beat a bare Channing Tatum Friday with $20.2 million ticket sales at the box office and has become our newest “guilty pleasure.” But don’t worry yet ladies Magic Mike came very close in second place with a debut of $19.4 million in ticket sales.
This raunchy comedy which also stars Mark Wahlberg, as Ted’s childhood friend John Bennett and Mila Kunis as Wahlberg’s girlfriend, is headed for the second best debut ever for an R-rated comedy since The Hangover Part II. This bear just maybe snuggling its way up $55 million in sales this weekend if it keeps going the way it is.
Last weekend’s box office winner Pixar’s Brave dropped 58 percent from its first Friday sales to $10.3 million but it could possibly be headed for an even higher spike thanks to the upcoming holiday. Coming in fourth (but a very close third) is Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Witness Protection with $10.3 million in ticket sales which is a little bit less than its previous Madea film which earned $10.5 million.
So here is a recap of the top five box office winners this Friday;
1. Ted – $20.2 million
2. Magic Mike – $19.4 million
3. Brave – $10.3 million
4. Madea’s Witness Protection – $10.3 million
5. Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted – $3.6 million
