Summer is creeping up on us. Most public schools are out for the summer already. Some home schoolers school year around and some break for summer, or at least break part of the summer. Whatever you choose to do for your familythere are ways to have fun and keep the learning going. Wichita Libraries have a summer reading program. With incentives to encourage kids to keep reading through the summer it is a great way to help your childs reading skills continue to improve. This years they have two themes. They have a theme for teens and a theme for younger children. With weekly activities to keep the kids involved and enthused. The themes this summer are: “Dream Big:Read!” and for the teens “OWN the NIGHT”.
Activities are weekly and even the teens will enjoy the variety of crafts and fun planned. To see the events planned check out the event page here. The summer reading program began ay 24th but you can still sign up! It ends July 26th. The grades for the teen program are 6-12th grade.
For the younger crowd the theme is Dream Big READ! This is for anyone under 17 years old. If your under 17 you can enter one or the other but not both reading programs. You get a book bag, book mark and a record sheet to track what you read through the summer. A variety of prizes gives kids many incentives to read. You can read about the fun, rules, prizes and activities at SummerReading/.
