With all of the fashions this summer, don’t forget about your nails! You might not have the time or money to spend for a day at the spa, or even for a mani/pedi at the mall, but don’t worry – there are ways for you to get a manicure right at home. Regardless of the length of your nails, you can always have a fantastic coat of color to complete the perfect summer outfit. Here are some simple tricks!
- Cheat! When it comes to nail painting, cheaters do prosper. Sally Hansen has come out with a perfect way to cheat on a manicure. And the best part is, it is less than $9! They are nail polish in sticker form – they are “polish strips.” (Found at basically any store that sells polish.) They are not like the little stickers you used when you were a kid, they feel and look like polish, without the mess. You simply place the design on your nail, file the excess, and finish with a top coat. There are dozens of designs and colors, perfect for your many swimming suits or dressing up for your cousin’s outdoor wedding.
- Get Crazy! All together you have 20 nails, but that doesn’t mean that you MUST have them all painted the same color. A fun way to get creative this summer is to get Sally Hansen’s polish strips, use one on your ring fingers, and then paint the rest of your nails a solid color. You can also put the same design on your big toe so your feet and hands match! This is a fun way to add some flavor, but it also will make your polish strips last longer.
- Use color in your French tip! A simple way to do a French manicure without going to a salon is to put the color you want for the tip on your nail. Let it dry. Put on another coat on the tip. Let it dry. Then, place a small amount of nail polish remover in the cap of the bottle, dip a Q-Tip in the remover and make the edge of the color even on your nail. Once you have the width of the color you want, finish with a top coat and you now have a French tip! Don’t always rely on classic white for your tip, go with a bright pink or maybe an orange for the summer.
- Go Black! Don’t be afraid of black polish this summer. Although it is dark, that doesn’t mean you have to hide it away until the cold winter months. You can jack it up with a jewel or a strip of bright color down the middle (toothpicks work great for making designs). If you are going to use black polish, keep your nails short – unless you are going for the Addams Family vibe.
Now you know some easy and fun ways to keep your nails fashionable, affordable, and fabulous!
