Paddle into the Record Books
Join the Guinness Book of World Records Challenge for The World’s Largest ‘Raft of Kayaks and Canoes’ event Saturday, September 1, 2012 in Suttons Bay, Michigan.
The current record: 1,902. Canoes and kayaks to break that record: 2,000. Come early! Stay late!
Boat launching and festivities begin at 9:30 a.m. and the official count begins at 1:00 p.m..
Drop your boats off early and wander around the marina where a wonderful array of local food vendors will be offering a diverse selection of tasty things to eat and drink. Shop Suttons Bay’s local Farmers’ Market and stores like Sensible Pearls, Enerdyne, Murdock’s Fudge and many more.

2-day packet pick-up at Suttons Bay Public School: Friday, August 31st from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m..
The last day to register online is Tuesday, August 28th at 11:59 p.m. et. On Saturday, September 1st, the day of the event, registration will close at 11:00 a.m..
Volunteers will be helping with boat drop off and launching. You will be able to drop your boats off early on Friday (August 31st) evening between 6-9 p.m. and Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. at Suttons Bay Public School.
There, canoes and kayaks will be transported to the main marina where they will be unloaded into a staffed area. Secure overnight boat storage and deliver to the waterfront Saturday morning is available at the school for those who pick-up their packets Friday evening.
Free parking and shuttle service will be available from Suttons Bay Public School on Saturday, September 1st, between 8:30 a.m. and noon.
*Take advantage of the free parking, since all street parking in Suttons Bay is only for two hours, and limited.
All boats must be launched by 12:30 p.m..
Registered participants will be able to purchase their choice of professionally taken photographs of the event at reduced prices. Photographers will be taking photos from the air as well as on land. Pictures will be posted and orders taken at www.sbfloatilla.com.
**Safety Rules & Regulations:
– Anyone under the age of 12 must be in a boat with their parent or guardian.
– Everyone must wear a Coast Guard approved personal floatation device.
– All paddlers or their guardian, must sign a waiver when they pick up their packet.
– The event will take place rain or shine; but will be delayed or cancelled if weather conditions make it unsafe to be on the water.
Guinness World Record rules specify only kayaks and canoes can participate! No boats can be tied together. Inflatable canoes/kayaks are not permitted. The raft of boats must float without touching shore or bottom for 30 seconds.
