Are you interested in swing dancing? Would you like to discover and join a unique once-a-month social activity? There is an exciting new opportunity for you in Corona: Savvy Swing is at MARQUEE 15.
The word savvy seems to dance smoothly off the tongue in combination with the word swing. Savvy is defined as “to understand” and the creators of this event are quite knowledgeable in the art of swing dance, share a passion for dancing, and have a deep understanding of the form. Victoria Smith, Christopher Smith, and Justin Langdon of Savvy Swing Dance Group premiered the Corona event in June.
Savvy Swing is seeking individuals who want to learn swing dancing and also veteran dancers to join them on July 8, 2012. The event includes a dance class, a time to socialize, a practice in the art of swing dancing, and an opportunity to dance all night long.
Savvy Swing Dance Group is an educational endeavor with a performance element attached. The group specializes in Lindy Hop and East Coast Swing and is located in the Inland Empire. It was founded in 2011 and started as an in-home gathering called: “Savvy Swing Sundays”.
Victoria Smith studied at Norco College before transferring to UC Riverside to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance. Victoria has settled in the Corona vicinity and her enthusiasm has led her to create this group with dance and life partner Christopher Smith.
The event this month brings the artistry of DJ Shane Hidey to MARQUEE 15. The evening welcomes new-comers to the style of swing with a dance lesson from 6:30 to 7:30pm. Doors open at six and dancing continues until 11:30pm. Cost for the evening is ten dollars in advance and $12 at the door. Dress comfortably and come on your own or with a partner. This event is sure to satisfy and provide breakaway (moment of improvisation between the set steps) from one’s daily routine.
