The Amazing Acro-Cats, an all-house cat troupe of circus and musical performers, will return to Denver this July with a remarkable 14 shows. A portion of the proceeds from these shows will benefit the Cat Care Society.
The Amazing Acro-Cats are a specially trained group of house cats, all of them shelter rescues. Trainer and show ringmaster Samantha Martin, a feline behavioral expert, put the show together several years ago to prove that cats can be trained and even perform just like dogs. Martin has devoted her life to animal welfare and public education to help people better understand our feline friends.
For those who haven’t seen the cats in person, the Amazing Acro-Cats have become media darlings. The cats can currently be seen in an episode of Animal Planet’s “Must Love Cats” and they are featured in the Spring 2012 Dogs and Cats edition of National Geographic. The cats can even be found online in their very own AOL News Online segment.
New to the show this year is Jax, a female rescue who performs a balancing act. The Rock-Cats rock band has also grown adding two more band members. Regular band members are Pinky who plays guitar, Dakota on drums and Nue who plays keyboards. Hen-diana Jones, the only chicken in the group, pecks a rocking tambourine. They are all managed by the cow-bell playing Tuna and this year their music will include Latin grooves and island rhythms. Other cats will be performing on skateboards, rolling barrels, tight ropes, hoops and more. What makes all these performances amazing is that all performers are just ordinary, but lovable, house cats.
A portion of the proceeds from the Denver shows will benefit the Cat Care Society, a cage-free shelter for abused and stray cats in Lakewood. The Society also provides quality medical care and special services for low-income cat owners.
The Amazing Acro-Cats will appear at the Bug Theatre, 3654 Navajo Street in Denver, starting Friday, July 6, with two shows at 7 and 10 p.m. Shows run through Saturday, July 14. Visit the Bug Theatre website for dates and times. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for children under 12 and can be purchased online at CircusCats.com.
These amazing cats will also be performing in Boulder at the Nomad Theatre in June and the Stargazer Theatre and Event Center in Colorado Springs in July.
