In this weekend’s Daily Deadz we’ve got new Zombie Magazines, we pose the question, ‘Why are we obsessed with zombies?’, find out what Necroludology is and how it’s helping to build a better Zombie, then do a Zombie ‘pub crawl’, and finally remember Mike Tyson’s infamous ear chewing incident from exactly 15 years ago this week.
In this, the newest form of zombie public relations, I rundown the top zombie themed storiez and newz from around the globe and call it The Daily Deadz.
The idea behind the madness is to bring it all together for you to devour at your convenience throughout the day so you wouldn’t have to scour the streets for your zombie meat, I mean newz, like the savages.
Enough with the blah-blah-blah, let’s get to it…
5. ‘Walking Dead’ gets a zombie-filled magazine this fall!
“Comic creator Robert Kirkman continues to expand the franchise by giving it a news outlet.” – USA TODAY
(Check out the new “Walking Dead Zombie Magazine” Coming in October in today’s slideshow.)
4. Zombies: Why Are We So Obsessed?
“What does it mean to be a monster, really, but to be possessed by an uncontrollable force.” – Huffington Post
(There are literally too many awesome things to quote in this article! I went paragraph by paragraph and seriously couldn’t decide on my favorite. A Must Read article. But, I settle on this one…)
“When we cast off the burdens of freedom, we find kinship in the monstrous, for what does it mean to be a monster, really, but to be possessed by an uncontrollable force? Zombies are driven by an urge to cannibalize. Vampires can’t check their lust for blood. Werewolves, trolls, goblins, demons and imps, sinister robots and good old fashioned ghosts: all are essentially addicts unburdened of guilt. We can imagine the strange satisfaction of an existence devoid of accountability — the joy of casting off neurotic humanity and turning untroubled machine.” – Eric G. Wilson
(Check out this NatGeo clip about one mans obsession with being prepared for the Zombie Apocalypse. Also, check out the pics in today’s slideshow.)
3. Necroludology: Building a better Zombie…
“…college professor Chris Totten takes a look at how zombies arose in popular culture, how they’re used in games, and how they could be put to better effect than cannon fodder. Just like games, movies, TV, and books have…” – Gamasutra
(Another great read! Favorite quote…)
“Necroludology emphasizes the roles of zombies in both historical and modern myth. Through examples where zombies have been utilized effectively, such as George Romero’s Dead series, World War Z, Resident Evil, The Walking Dead and the board game Zombies!!!, common themes can be extracted. This paper will focus on a sampling of these themes that can educate zombie game design.” – Christopher Totten
(Check out the pics in today’s slideshow.)
2. Fighting Zombies with Zombies?
“The group’s most recent outing was a pub crawl; the next event is the Apocalypse Ball on Aug. 4 at Frenetic Theater. The downtown tunnels are even worse, “awfully creepy” – Houston Chronicle

1. Mike Tyson’s ‘Zombie-Like’ ear biting was 15 years ago this week!
“With the recent rash of zombie-esque crimes grabbing headlines around the world, HuffPost Weird News would be remiss if we forgot to recognize the anniversary of Mike Tyson’s scandalous case of ear-biting terror.” – H.P.
(Witnessed the beginning of the end in an actual video clip from the fight. Plus, check the pic in today’s slidshow. They’re located in today’s sidebar on the left.)
