Enduring the scorching sun, tall prairie grass and heavily wooded areas the Kansas Senior Series golfers made their way around the Firekeeper Golf Course in Mayetta, Kan. on Thursday. The course is owned by the Prairie Band Potawatomie Nation and is located 15 miles north of Topeka. The course is the first signature course designed by Notah Begay III.
In the 50 to 54 age group gross scoring Tim Tyner took first place with a score of two under par 70. Michael Casamento posted a one under par 71 for second place and Brad Swanson shot a five over par 77 for third. In net scoring a tie for first was posted with Tim Tyner and Michael Casamento scoring a three under 69. Don Noller took third place with an even par round.
The 55 to 59 age group gross scoring resulted in a tie for first between Robert Abell and Bruce Meyer with a one over par 73. Bob Hartmann took third place with a three over par 75. In net scoring Bruce Meyer took first place with a four under par 68. Robert Abell finished in second with a one under 71 and Patrick Anderson scored an even par round of 72 for third place.
Maurice Terrebonne posted a four over par 76 to finish in first in the 60 to 64 age group gross scoring. Doug Kaup shot a 77 to take second and Paul MacDonald finished in third with a six over 78. In net scoring Maurice Terrebonne and Paul MacDonald tied for first with a one under par 71. Tyler Woodrow took third with an even par round.
The 65 to 69 age group gross scoring was won by Don Kuehn with an even par round of 72. Bill McDonald and Bill Quattlebaum tied for second with a one over par 73. In net scoring three players posted a two under par 70 for first place. Those players were Roger Gemeinhardt, Rick Williamson and Ken Butler.
Darrell Harshaw won first place in the 70 and over age group gross scoring with a five over par 77. Richard Markley took second with a nine over 81 and Jim Deines took third shooting an 84. First place in the net scoring was won by Darrell Harshaw with a four under 68. Jim Deines took second with a one under 71. Richard Markley and George Place tied for third with a two over par 74.
The next tournament for the Kansas Senior Series is July 16 at Falcon Lakes Golf Course in Basehor.
